Nano-enabled medical technologies have the potential to revolutionize healthcare. Current research in nano-enabled medical technologies is rapidly producing commercially viable products as well as novel platforms and approaches for drug discovery, delivery and diagnostics. While nano-enabled medicine could bring many benefits, it is moving forward with very little public discourse on the unintended societal, ethical, environmental and economic impacts of the nanomaterials used to develop these new nanomedical approaches. Should new nanotechnology applications in medicine be made available to the public before we are confident of the potential risks?

Please join your fellow citizens to hear a presentation about nano-enabled medical technologies from Professor Rudolph Juliano, Department of Pharmacology at the University of North Carolina and Principal Investigator for the Carolina Center of Cancer Nanotechnology Excellence. Following the presentation you will have the unique opportunity to discuss with Dr. Juliano, fellow citizens, and area scientists the potential benefits and implications of integrating these technologies into the medical arena and society.
