Event: Bill Averbach and Bam-Jazz "Milestone" recording session - Public Encouraged to Attend
Location: Evening Muse 3227 N Davidson St in Charlotte
Date: February 17th
Time: 8:00 PM

If there was ever an opportunity to be part of something where you live that affirms the place to be a vivacious and special this may very well be one. So often the rattle of the world around you prevents those events from actually coming to fruition and they pass by undetected as a whisper amid the noise.
Trumpeter, vocalist, and composer Bill Averbach will be offering up a live recording session at the Evening Muse on February 17th at 8 PM with is band Bam-Jazz. The session is open to the public and is part of a special recording project he is doing to cover traditional Jazz and Blues and his original music.
In the mid-70's Averbach moved from Philadelphia to Texas and spent 20 years in Austin during the time period that led the City to be recognized as the “Live Music Capitol”. Upon seeing that Austin was about to be overrun with musicians, he “high tailed it” to the Texas Gulf Coast where he picked up influences from the Texas & Louisiana Creole and Cajun musicians.
His vocal style is reminiscent of Louis Armstrong and Dr. John with strong influences from the Texas Blues scene with which he was involved as a horn player. His original music runs the gamut of styles from the most traditional songs with Creole French lyrics to Jump Blues and the progressive Jazz sounds of Charles Mingus, Thelonius Monk, Horace Silver, Miles Davis and beyond.
Averbach will be joined by former James Brown lead Trombonist Fred Wesley, New Orleans drummer Ocie Davis, bassist John Shaughnessy, and guitarist Adam Sztyber for an historic "milestone" Jazz and Blues session recorded live.

This project was made possible through the support of the North Carolina Arts Council, a state agency, the Blumenthal Endowment, and the arts councils of Cabarrus, Cleveland, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, Rowan, Rutherford, Stanly, and York (SC) counties, and a Regional Artist Project Grant from the Arts & Science Council, Charlotte-Mecklenburg, Inc.

I saw this band listed in the events section and decided to go check them out. The music was fabulous! The singer and trumpet player added a real spark to the band. Their sound took me back to New Orleans. I heard everything from old blues and jazz to modern jazz and some great original music. Cool band!
