Big Love was the hit of the Humana Festival in 2000. Charles Mee's zany remaking of Aeschlyus' Suppliant Maidens turns the ancient story of fifty brides who rebel against their arranged marriages to fifty grooms into nothing less than a theatrical free-for-all. Before the nuptials are completed we get a food fight, an orgy and a murder. The dialogue is crisp and brisk, and the action is athletic. Big Love has big ideas about justice and revenge mixed in with big fun.
How Mee handles this explosive material . . . is nothing less than inspiring. David Lohrey - A Curtain Up Review
