KIDS DAY AT IRONDALE

PigPen will lead a round of games and ensemble building exercises learned at Carnegie Mellon University's School of Drama. PigPen will also explore and answer questions regarding their unique "folk-theatre" aesthetic, which includes shadow puppetry, unique usage of practical lighting, and live music.

The ensemble of 8, Alex Falberg, Arya Shahi, Ben Ferguson, Curtis Gillen, Daniel Weschler, Matthew Nuernberger,Ryan Meliamet, met and formed PigPen Theatre while they were students at Carnegie Mellon School of Drama in 2008. PigPen is now based in New York, but has toured throughout the US. The company creates atmospheric theatrical fables with a unique blend of shadow puppetry, group movement, live music, and clever lighting effects and terrific acting.

Please join us on the second Saturday of each month for Irondale’s Big Box of Distractions. Create puppets. Learn about clowning and acrobatics. Recite Shakespeare. Explore yoga, historical events like the Abolitionist movement and even current political struggles like the fight to protect New York City’s water. This series of community and family-oriented distractions promises to engage kids and adults of all ages. Watch, participate, learn, share and commune with some of NYC’s most innovative artists. Workshops range from 45-90 minutes and begin at 2pm. Tickets are only $10 for adults & $5 for kids. All ages are always welcome! For more information or to purchase tickets, visit www.irondale.org.
