Rennaissance Center
Detroit, Michigan

Organizer: Mackinac Center for Public Policy. Following weeks of public hearings and debate, President Bush in December announced a plan designed to rescue the Detroit automakers. This crisis in the auto industry may well be the biggest economic event in Michigan history. But will the bailout help in the long-term, and will it address the issues that created the crisis in the first place?

A blue ribbon panel of experts hosted by the Mackinac Center will address these questions and discuss the restructuring and regulatory reforms necessary to restore economic viability to the industry.

Among other things, the panelists will discuss the mechanics of restructuring (within or without Chapter 11), needed regulatory reforms and the impact of existing labor policies.
