WHO:
Lev Grossman – is the author of three books, Warp, Codex, and The Magicians, which was published in August 200 and has received critical praise from The New York Times Book Review, Publisher’s Weekly, and Seattle Times, among others. Mr. Grossman has written for the New York Times, Salon, Entertainment Weekly, Time Out New York, and the Village Voice. He has served as a member of the board of directors of the National Book Critics Circle and as chair of the Fiction Awards Panel. He is a senior writer and book critic for TIME and co-author of the TIME.com blog Nerd World.

Rivka Galchen – is a writer and physician. Her first novel, Atmospheric Disturbances, published in 2008, was a New York Times Notable Book of the Year, a Salon Top Ten Book of the Year, a Slate Best Book of the Year, and a Cleveland Plain Dealer Best Book of the Year. It was also a finalist for the John Sargent Sr. First Novel Prize, a Canadian Writers’ Trusts’ Fiction Prize, and the prestigious Canadian Governor General’s Award. Her essays and short stories have appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times, and The Believer. Ms. Galchen received a Rona Jaffe Foundation Writers' Award in 2006. She currently teaches writing at Columbia University.

Ed Park – is a founding editor of The Believer and the former editor of the Voice Literary Supplement. His first novel, Personal Days, published in May 2008, was a finalist for the PEN Hemingway Award and the John Sargent Sr. First Novel Prize, and was named one of TIME’s Top Ten Fiction Books of the year. His articles, essays, and reviews have appeared in The New York Times, The Boston Globe, Salon, and other publications. His work has also appeared in various anthologies such as Trampoline (edited by Kelly Link), Burn This Book (edited by Toni Morrison), and Read Hard, an anthology from The Believer. Mr. Park received his M.F.A. from Columbia, where he teaches in the graduate writing program.

Behind the Book is a literacy nonprofit working with low-income students in NYC public schools. Our mission is to excite children and young adults about reading. Working in the K-12th grades, we bring authors and their books into individual classrooms to build literacy skills and nurture a new generation of book readers.
