The focus of this BayCHI panel is on user experience of online advertising. We are bringing together a bunch of panelists who will share their experiences and insights related to online advertising. We will talk about various types of advertising including post rolls, overlays, and content as advertising. The focus will be on what types of advertising users find intrusive, what they are are willing to put up with and engage with, and what new types of advertising we are starting to see.

Heath Row works as a research manager for DoubleClick Inc. There he studies the impact of new technology on advertising -- and vice versa. Previously, he helped launch Squidoo, served as an editor for Fast Company magazine, and wrote and edited for other business and technology magazines. He also blogs occasionally at mediadiet.net.

Jeremy Liew joined Lightspeed Venture Partners in 2006 as a partner. Previously, Jeremy was with AOL, first as SVP of Corporate Development and Chief of Staff to the CEO, and then as General Manager of Netscape. He joined AOL from InterActiveCorp (originally USA Networks), where he was VP of Strategic Planning. While there, he was responsible for acquisitions and investments in TV Networks, consumer internet companies, and online travel companies. Jeremy started working in the consumer internet industry as an early employee of CitySearch in 1996, where he held a variety of sales management, operational, and business development roles. He was also a management consultant at McKinsey and Company.

Jeremy holds an MBA from Stanford and a BA/BSc(Hons) from the Australian National University in Linguistics and Pure Mathematics.

Joe Hurd is Vice President, Business Development at VideoEgg. Before joining VideoEgg, Joe was the VP BD and GM, International at Friendster and also spent 3 years building AOL’s business development teams in Japan and Australia. He first entered the world of technology and business practicing corporate law in London with Linklaters and in Palo Alto with Wilson, Sonsini. Joe received AB in East Asian Studies and Government and a JD from Harvard University and a masters in International Affairs from Columbia.

Ted Rheingold has been building web apps since 1996 and has spent the last 5 years figuring out how to actually make a business out of doing it. In 2001 he started the web services company OneMatchFire.com and in 2004 started Dogster.com and Catster.com which have become the definitive online communities for pet lovers. What once started as night and weekend projects have turned into a 3 year old, 14 person, profitable mini-network of passion-centric communities.

Panel will be moderated by Rashmi Sinha from BayCHI. She is a co-founder of SlideShare.
