Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra November 17, 2010

After opening with the swelling melodies of Vaughan Williams' 'Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis,' BRSO principal bassoonist Gabriel Beavers takes center stage, performing Mozart's Bassoon Concerto with the orchestra. Composed by Mozart at the tender age of 18, the Concerto is much admired for its stylish charm. In a work which is indescribably connected with the spirit of Finland, Jean Sibelius' Symphony No. 5 delights the listener with intimations of the melodic fluidity of the Finish language, every note an expression of the ethos of his homeland.
