Jean-Michel Basquiat, the self-taught Brooklyn artist who died of a heroine overdose when he was only twenty-seven years old and who was seen as one of the key figures in the 1980s art scene is now recognized to be of the greatest significance for twentieth-century art.

Basquiat, son of a Haitian father and Puerto-Rican mother, started his career as a professional artist at the age of twenty after quitting high school a year before graduating and selling hand-painted t-shirts, collages and drawings on the streets.

During this exhibition the Shanghai Duolun Museum of Modern Art will present more than seventy drawings by Basquiat which have been shown all over the world during previous exhibitions. Jean-Michel Basquiat wanted his art to be relevant to the public and the Shanghai Duolun MOMA is proud to give the public this opportunity to experience the work of this mostly creative, world famous artist.
