Tech + Geek + Culture. The event for the Portland tech community, produced BY the Portland tech community. Interesting topics, cool people, and great networking opportunities. Always free to attend.

What is BarCamp? It is an ad-hoc gathering born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment, with discussions, demos, and interaction from participants.

BarCamp is a FREE event and the content is determined by the attendees. The event will be hosted at CubeSpace, which has a number of conference rooms for breakout sessions, a large main meeting area, wireless access, easy access to public transportation, bike storage, and nearby parking. Thanks to Eva and David at CubeSpace for hosting the event again this year.

The event kicks off on Friday evening, May 2, 7pm at CubeSpace. Doors open an hour earlier at 6pm for registration and networking. Transportation and parking information is available on the website. Friday night activities will include a reception, kickoff presentation, session planning, and networking. If you are wanting to present or organize a gathering at BarCamp Portland, you should make every effort to attend the Friday night reception to get your session idea on the agenda.

Saturday (05/03) and Sunday (05/04) are the actual BarCamp Portland sessions (also at CubeSpace). Breakfast and registation (it's free, we just need to give you a badge) begins at 9am on both Saturday and Sunday, with the official kickoff beginning at 9:30am. The event will be going until 11pm on Saturday night and 3pm on Sunday, so it's ok if you are not able to commit to the entire day. Walk-ins are always welcome!

Hmm, falls right into the middle of my wife's finals. Either I will be there because I need to get out and be around some semblance of sanity, or I won't be there because I'll be busy trying to keep the wife sane. ;~)

I couldn't find all information about this event :-( Can you send me information about BarCamp Portland?? My mail is [email protected]. I wonder if Azerbaijan is eligible, if yes, what sould I do and etc. Please send me as soon as possible. Thanks in advance!

tiesque

Rashad_Aze, all the info is on the homepage: http://barcampportland.org. Show up, anyone can propose a session, go to whatever sessions interest you. There's not much more to it than that.

And yes Azerbaijanians are welcome but if the entire population shows up we might run into space issues.

Had a great time last year. Wouldn't miss it.

I'll be there, for sure! Last year rocked, big time. Hope nobody minds if I spam with a blog I recently started, the focus is collaboration in a tech-enabled world: http://ournewmind.wordpress.com

factoryjoe

Hey hey, have fun! ;)

Bram Pitoyo

@factoryjoe But can you afford to miss all the sasquatch (and possibly werewolf) goodness by not attending? :)

The last BarCamp was great and I look forward to seeing what this one has to offer.
Pete - I don't mind the laid-back promotion - in fact I was wondering how to let people know about a special presentation on collaboration tools on May 6th with the Software Association of Oregon, http://www.sao.org.

so if you wear the barcamp shirt to barcamp, is it a faux pas? like wearing a band's shirt to the band's concert?

bburcham

swdc17: I think it's like marathons—it's only bad taste to wear the shirt for the current event. Past events are ok. Extra points if it's from a far-distand BarCamp.

ravenzachary

Wear anything, just wear something!

philips

Can we lock up bikes inside? I remember the on street bike parking was limited last time.

ravenzachary

There is first-come first-served inside bike storage.

philips

@ravenzachary great, thanks :D

GeekyGirlDawn

MattMcC

Gonna do my best on my whirlwind weekend PDX tour...

gaberliner

is there a bazcamp coming? (in case the bike parking runs out, say)

dodeja

GeekyGirlDawn

We plan to have a few shirts at the event that will be available for the same donation; however supplies are limited :-)
