The FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) is an exciting international competition that teams professionals and young people to solve an engineering design problem in an intense and competitive way. The program is a life-changing, career-molding experience — and a lot of fun. In 2008, FRC will reach more than 37,500 high school students on more than 1,500 teams from Brazil, Canada, Chile, Israel, Mexico, the U.K., and every state in the U.S. Each team will participate in one of several regional competitions throughout the world. Each regional competition is a high-tech spectator sporting event, the result of focused brainstorming, real-world teamwork, dedicated mentoring, and adherence to project timelines and deadlines.

Colleges, universities, corporations, businesses, and individuals provide scholarships to our participants. Involved volunteers rekindle their own passions for technology and invention, and remind them why they originally pursued engineering and science professions. Through hands-on mentorship and encouragement, volunteers help students gain skills and confidence, and help shape the future high-tech workforce. The competition shows students that the technological fields offer many opportunities, and that science, math, engineering, and invention can be exciting
