Aykanna is a stunning musical duo created by Sukhdev Jackson and Grammy nominated percussionist Akahdahmah. Together they merge sacred chants with uplifting music. Aykanna means "the pipeline between heaven and earth," from the ancient sacred Arameic texts. Sukhdev's soul and jazz upbringing and Akahdahmah's West African percussive influences seasoned with Afro-Cuban New York City funk resonate throughout their albums "Livelight" and "Mother". Now with their new "Mantra Mala" Aykanna is ready to greet a much greater audience with a deeper connection to their spirit and souls.

Recorded during Sukhdev's pregnancy, this album is filled with creative energy, whether mellow or rhythmic, meditative or danceable. Sukhdev's voice is like honey at times, and like a rhythmic force elsewhere. Akahdahmah's drumbeat is the heartbeat throughout, keeping the vocal and musical layers together. The instrumentation, including slide, electric guitar and bass, and the many instruments of Hans Christian, adds amazing depth.

In 2002, Sukhdev and Akahdahmah came together to accept a journey into a medicine music training that would reveal to them the healing power of the Sacred Sound Current. The transformation was so profound in their lives that it inspired them to accept the mission to awaken with music the healing and creative powers of love in all people.

Aykanna recently finished recording a selection of Inspirational songs. Sukhdev and Akahdahmah are excited to reveal this new dimension of music that promises to ignite passion, devotion and open hearts. The new CD, Mantra Mala is one of the most fresh and exciting releases in this broad genre in quite a while. And the ensuing Spring tour to Northern California and appearance at Sat Nam Fest is the obvious and clear next step to spread the message of their music.
