In late 1942, the National Guardsmen of the 32nd "Red Arrow" Division fought a little-remembered campaign to prevent Japanese occupation of the island of New Guinea. James Campbell, who retraced their route and interviewed survivors, tells their story of heroism in his book The Ghost Mountain Boys. Campbell will share tales of their struggle to survive the jungle and the Japanese in a free talk on Thursday, October 9 at 7 p.m. in the Williamsburg Library Theatre, 515 Scotland Street. The program is free and reservations are not needed. Call (757) 259-4050 for more information.
