Drummer/Composer Austin Walker was born in Massachusetts and took to playing drums at and early age of 12. He grew up through the Foxborough Music Department. There he has had the privilege to play and learn from musicians such as Wynton Marsalis, Wycliffe Gordon, Justin DiCioccio, Bobby Shew, Greg Hopkins, Mark Vinci, Steven Massey, Kurt Bacher, Jeff Galindo, Ted Kasher, Bob Gullotti, and Brooke Sofferman. In 2005 Austin moved to New York City to receive tutelage from Justin DiCioccio and John Riley at the Manhattan School of Music. While in School Austin has had the privilege of being an assistant educator and guest artist for Jazz at Lincoln Centers Webop program and The Middle School Jazz Academy. Austin has performed already in many places some including The Boston Symphony Hall, Alice Tully Hall and Dizzys Club Coca Cola. While living in Amsterdam in 2007 Austin performed at the Bimhuis, Caf Alto, The Bethanienklooster, and De Kluis. Just last summer Austin toured in Toronto and Performed in the Caribbean. He has performed regularly at the Garage for the last four years with the Austin Walker Quartet. Austin is known for his ability to be open in playing various styles of new modern music while still honoring the traditions of jazz and swing. Being a young and up in coming musician in New York City Austin is constantly trying to find new ways to re-invent himself and the Music he is playing.
