AUDITION NOTICE “THE ELEPHANT MAN”
The Physically Handicapped Actors & Musical Artists League, Inc. will hold auditions for its winter 2012 production of “The Elephant Man” written by Bernard Pomerance and directed by Steve Wilson and Bryce Alexander. Preliminary auditions will be held on Wednesday, September 14 from 5pm-8pm by appointment only (call or email to schedule a time). There will also be a Callback audition on Saturday, September 17 from 12-4pm. Both audition events will be held in the Pluss Theatre at the Mizel Arts & Culture Center (located on the campus of the Robert E. Loup Jewish Community Center) at 350 S. Dahlia St, Denver, 80246. If actors cannot make either audition, it is possible to arrange for a private audition time – call for more information. The show will be presented at the Aurora Fox Arts Center January 12 – February 5, 2012 and at the Arvada Center for the Arts & Humanities February 24 - 26.
Needed are eight physically and/or cognitively challenged men and women age range 18 - 65. Actors may be asked to provide proof of disability. A complete character breakdown and show synopsis is included on page 2. Actors need to prepare one dramatic monologue up to one minute in length. Selections from “The Elephant Man” are discouraged. About the Play:
The Elephant Man winner of numerous Tony Awards including Best Play, is based on the life of John Merrick, who lived in London during the latter part of the nineteenth century. Victim of rare skin and bone diseases and horribly deformed, he goes from the star freak attraction in traveling side shows to London society where he evolves from an object of pity to a witty favorite of the aristocracy and literati.
