Mexican-born pianist, composer, educator, and 2003 Latin Jazz USA Outstanding Achievement Award winner Artuto O'Farrill grew up in New York City, where he studied at the Manhattan School of Music, Brooklyn College Conservatory, and the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College. After a stint with the Carla Bley Big Band, his solo career included collaborations with Dizzy Gillespie, Wynton Marsalis, Harry Belafonte, and many more. His GRAMMY-nominated Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra expands upon his work as director of Chico O'Farrill's Afro-Cuban Jazz Orchestra, preservationists of his father's music and the band-in-residence at Manhattan's world famous jazz nightclub Birdland for decades.
