Artist's Reception: AT PLAY IN THE FIELD OF THE PSYCHE - Gary Bacon October 26, 2011

McKinley Art Solutions is proud to present AT PLAY IN THE FIELD OF THE PSYCHE, digital collage works by Gary Bacon at Hotel Triton's Mezzanine Gallery. Gary's artistry is expressed in two major forms, travel photography and abstract digital art. As Gary interfaced with distant cultures in Cuba, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Italy, Spain, France, Kenya, and Turkey he was brought face-to-face with the natural beauty of distant places and the underlying mystique of people and culture. He sought to capture the essence of the spirit of place though photography. As he attempted to go deeper into the images of these wonderful natural and cultural venues, he began to experiment with photographic artifacts. This opened Gary to the world of color and form that underlies each photograph. This foray into the underlying foundation of photography has resulted in a rich and unique set of abstract digital tapestries.

"In my artwork, which exists as a snapshot of my own psyche, I attempt to shed light on the inner world through metaphor, archetypes, and known systems of exploration. Some of the mechanisms that I use in my explorations into the psyche are drawn from the sciences of the mind, some are drawn from ancient spiritual systems, and others are drawn from direct knowing through meditation, induced trance or psychic travel. In my prints, you will see vestiges of Jungian Psychology, Kundalini Yoga, Southwest Indian lore, Huichol Indian Cosmology, Amazonian shamanism, Gnosticism, Christian mysticism, ancient Egyptian mythology, Sufism, Hinduism, and Alchemy. Each cultural representation brings a fuller and richer gestalt to the understanding of the human psyche." ~ Gary Bacon
