Twenty abstract landscapes and seascapes by Williamsburg artist Emma L. Powers will be on display. A reception to meet the artist will be held at the Gallery on Saturday, March 4 from 3 to 5 p.m.

This is Powers first exhibition. A devoted colorist, the artist has produced pieces featuring a wide range of textures and pigments that are filled with light and lyricism. The images distill perceptions -- both visual and emotional -- and convey a sense of joy and serenity.

Powers' work reflects a love of Nature. Whether depicting sunlit meadows, weathered wood, or the change of tides, the paintings emphasize the fragility of the environment and the eternal human need for natural surroundings.

A Virginia native, Emma L. Powers has lived in Williamsburg for more than thirty years. Educated at the College of William and Mary, she holds degrees in history and American Studies and is an historian at the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation.
