($8) Jennifer Siegal, designer of modular nomadic habitats, traces her predisposition for mobility back through two generations of hot dog cart owners. Taking a cue from Italian futurism, Siegal and her Office of Mobile Design (OMD) place a priority on dynamic environments that shed the stigma generally associated with prefab housing and bridge the gap between rich and poor. OMD's projects include the Häagen Dazs Pleasure Mobile, a lightweight cocoon structure that blends the sensual pleasures of ice cream and cinema, and Hydra21 , a subaqueous unit of glass and synthetic rubber that inflates upon impact with the ocean's surface to create a protective environment for war refugees. Tonight, Siegal discusses her transient science.
