April’s CoolTan Arts Largactyl Shuffle is the Arts and Crafts Walk! April 21, 2012

Join CoolTan Arts Largactyl Shuffle, a free guided cultural walk around Southwark, promoting mental health and physical wellbeing, using art, humour and history and de-stigmatising mental distress.

This month’s walk will be an exploration of Arts and Crafts through Southwark’s streets and green spaces, ending at Dickens Gardens.

Learn about the many different guises of Arts and Crafts throughout the ages from high art to domestic art – from therapy in institutions to a medium of social activism.

We will look at Arts and Crafts as a nineteenth century movement, but also from other perspectives, such as Outsider Art, Feminist Art, urban guerrilla crafting, and the relationship of the movement to mental health.

En route we will stop for talks highlighting South London’s history of crafting, as well as visiting CoolTan Arts for a spot of our own Arts and Crafts.

Please meet outside the main entrance to The Maudsley Hospital, Denmark Hill, SE5 at 12pm. Please wear comfortable shoes and bring your own water.
