"The Johnny Cash of Painting," the writer Jim Reed tagged visual artist and songwriter Andy Friedman. Onstage, the Brooklyn-based maverick visual artist and songwriter presents original songs with music from his five-piece roadhouse country-folk band Andy Friedman & The Other Failures, paired with projections of his paintings, drawings, and photographs. It's a hybrid music+art honky-tonk performance genre he calls "Art Country."

"Winning over audiences."
THE NEW YORKER

"King of Art-Country."
MINNEAPOLIS CITY PAGES

"Friedman has built a following, mostly in bars and music clubs rather than galleries, through his idiosyncratic hybrid performance."
CHICAGO READER

"Friedman has been called a "slideshow poet" and a "country-singer-conceptualist," but there is no easy shorthand for his mix of monologue, projection, music, and the occasional arm-wrestling contest with a heckler."
