Seminar Focus

This research seminar will focus on the use of insight intelligence to drive the development of local provision to reduce health inequalities and how Salford is intending to re-shape many of its public health interventions in response.

Seminar Content

A brief overview of the key insights from local social marketing research which have informed planning for behavioural interventions. The information helps people to better understand the ways in which the behaviours of our local population are rooted in the inequalities they experience, and drive health inequalities as a consequence.

David Herne

David Herne leads on reducing health inequalities and manages a range of the strategic plan initiatives which fall under the banner of lifestyle programme interventions. As an escapee from the teaching profession, he has a long and convoluted career path to his current role including health policy leadership in Knowsley MBC, and management of health promotion services in Central Lancashire.

David then moved into public health working as a specialist focusing on the drug and alcohol agenda. He also worked part time for the Open University as an Associate Lecturer on public health and health and social care courses. He moved to Salford in 2008 and was appointed Deputy DPH in 2009.
