Join us for reading by Kaye Gibbons, the author of "Ellen Foster," this year's selection for Books on the Bayou.

A native of North Carolina, Kaye Gibbons wrote "Ellen Foster," her first novel, at age 26, drawing from some of her personal experiences growing up. Now considered a classic, "Ellen Foster" has been widely translated, frequently performed in theatres throughout the United States and was made into a Hallmark Hall of Fame movie starring Julie Harris in 1997. In 1998 "Ellen Foster" and "A Virtuous Woman" (Gibbons's second novel) were chosen as Oprah Book Club selections and led "The New York Times" bestseller list for many weeks.

Kaye Gibbons is a regular contributor to the New York Times Book Review and has written 10 novels including her newest, "The Lunatics Ball" which will be published in 2008.
