Since its independence in 1965, Botswana has experienced rapid growth through a combination of policies, institutions and built-in shock absorbers. It was the world's fastest growing economy from 1966-97. It has consistently ranked as the least corrupt country in Africa, and less corrupt than nine EU countries.
