KOTKOT is Amir Ziv (drums) with Marc Ribot (guitar), Cyro Baptista (perc) & Shahzad Ismaily (bass).
Tonight they'll be celebrating the release of their debut record Alive At Tonic.
"Whether squeezing out long, friction-defying hi-hat Morse codes, dropping weird bombs to huge effect, or creating fabulously meaningful rhythmic tapestries...Ziv impresses with his controlled limb-work and out-of-control imagination." Adam Budofsky - Modern Drummer. Arriving in America in 1990 from his native land of Israel, Amir Ziv arose as one of the country's most forward-thinking & visionary drummers; setting deep marks in both the Nu-Jazz and the "live" electronica scenes. Amir's innovative work with his band Droid, his sideman credits ranging from Sean Lennon and Trey Anastasio to Beat the Donkey and Medeski Martin and Wood, and his educator status which includes eight years on the prestigious New School Jazz Faculty and master classes around the globe has brought recent demand for his musical skills the world over. KOTKOT blends the band members American, Brazilian, Pakistani and Israeli musical influences in an improvisational setting. A sort of hellish world-surf-jazz.
