Richmond, Virginia 23220

Featuring Pianist Anton Nel and the Richmond Symphony Chorus, the Richmond Symphony will be playing Rossini's "Overture to the Barber of Seville," Poulenc's "Gloria," Ravel's "Concerto for Piano in G Major," and Stravinsky's "Jeu de Cartes." Stravinky’s Jeu de cartes (Card Game) is a cleverly humorous ballet score “in three deals.” He quotes a number of earlier pieces including Rossini’s Barber of Seville Overture. Ravel’s jazz-influenced concerto reflects the wide variety of influences in 1920’s Paris, a location instrumental in the young Stravinsky’s early success. Poulenc’s Gloria, a later French composition also has connections to more popular traditions in the guise of a liturgical piece.
