ALTERED BOOKS WORKSHOP – NEW!
4 classes
Learn how to give that old, unwanted book a new life – as a piece of art! Altered books are actually an old way of recycling, dating back to the 11th century. Why create an altered book? As a gift for a special occasion, to showcase your own poetry, to create a pictorial autobiography or wish book, to store pressed flowers, a hiding place for precious letters. . .
First class: History of altered books; types of media to use in a book; choose a theme; backgrounds; embellishments.
Second class: Using adhesives; adding text; interactive pages; dimensional pieces; using mementos, photos.
Third class: Making windows and frames.
Fourth class: Transferring images and text; finishing touches; altered book contest.
Students should bring to class:
-Old books (various shapes, sizes, titles)
