218 Sullivan St.
New York City, New York

While most parties boast about their exclusivity, ALMA seems to pride itself on being all-inclusive. ?All for the Love of Music and Art?, it's purpose has been clearly stated since their first event at Punch, and the response was so overwhelming that half of their audience couldn?t fit inside the venue. Pulsating drums echoed through the swank Chelsea lounge as people experienced for the first time the unique sound of ALMA?s residents DJ True and Miller Cruz an authentic Brazilian pair like no other.

Now on Friday, October 15th, ALMA will answer the call for more
batucada (drums) and more capoeira, with a performance by Grupo Capoeira Brasil and Maracatu NY.

Grupo Capoeira Brasil was inaugurated and sponsored by a council of legendary mestres from various organizations in Rio de Janeiro in 1989. It was the beginning of an amazing capoeira dynasty, which today is one of the largest in the world with centers and academies in New York, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Antonio, St. Louis, Gainesville, Boston, Amsterdan, Sydney, Paris, Marseille and all over Brazil.

Maracatu NY, New York's first and only Maracatu ensemble,
consists of up to twenty percussionists, playing the enormous
alfaia drums as well as bells, shakers, and the caixa (snare drum).

The group dedicates itself to the performance of traditional
Maracatu rhythms and songs as well as New Orleans Second
Line and the contemporary Mangue Beat rhythms.

Providing the grooves will be their very own DJ True and Miller Cruz. And making sure everyone continues to share in the love
will be none other than Manchildblack and Muzikbutrfly. Expect the same intensity, the same love, and the same soul? ALMA.

$5 before Midnight, $15 at the door
$10 w/ RSVP to [email protected]
