Allison Crowe returns home to Newfoundland for a special performance this Friday night, August 15th - joining the line-up of the Fifth Annual Writers at Woody Point Festival.

This literary and musical event takes place in the Woody Point Heritage Theatre, celebrating its 100th year in the heart of beautiful Gros Morne National Park. Hosted by Shelagh Rogers, this Friday night "features the return to Woody Point of Gordon Pinsent, fresh off his Genie-award winning performance in the critically-acclaimed film Away From Her. Reading on the same bill that night will be two of Canada's finest poets, Don McKay, winner of the Governor General's Award and the Griffin Poetry Prize, and Corner Brook's own Randall Maggs, reading from the acclaimed collection Night Work."

When she last performed on island, in May of this year, Allison Crowe thrilled a full house at the Arts and Culture Centre in Corner Brook with her singular blend of rock, jazz, folk, blues and soul. Since then, the singer-songwriter has toured Europe and America, earning standing ovations in Paris, Prague, Vienna, Frankfurt, New York City and other cultural capitals of the world.

Crowe's newest album, Little Light, is now available at Fred's Records on Duckworth Street in St. John's (joining her five other CD albums). Characteristically diverse, it's a mix of original songs and interpretations from Phil Ochs to Cyndi Lauper. "Power-house intense" is how one international reviewer describes "Little Light", noting: "The energy of (live song) Disease can easily provide electricity to a small country for a decade." And it's not just the rockers that excite - Toronto music scribe Lorette Luzajic calls Northern Lights, another live track on the album, "the prettiest song that Sarah McLachlan never wrote".

Northern Lights was performed by Allison Crowe to open last year's 'John Lennon Northern Lights Festival' in Scotland. Next week, at the invitation of Julia Baird, Director of Cavern City Tours, Crowe flies to Liverpool for a trio of performances to celebrate Beatles Week 2008.

Before this bird has flown, she'll be joining in all the fun at Woody Point on the south shore of Bonne Bay - it's all happening starting today, August 12, through, August 17, 2008. (For more info please visit http://www.writersatwoodypoint.com and http://www.allisoncrowe.com )
