Hornby Island, British Columbia V0R 1Z0

Expect overtones of Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, Ani DiFranco, The Beatles, jazz and plenty more when Allison Crowe makes her first concert visit to Hornby – to sing and play the community's newly-restored Bechstein grand piano. The bicoastal musician, who calls Vancouver Island and Newfoundland home, has earned a singular reputation for fun, exciting and passionate live performances across Canada and Europe.

"It takes a lot of self-confidence to tackle Aretha (Franklin)'s version of "I Never Loved a Man" but Allison does and nails it just as good as the Queen of Soul herself. Her piano playing is equally exquisite. Treat yourself to one of the mightiest talents on the singer-songwriter scene today," says Bob Muller, song curator at JoniMitchell.com Longtime NPR Radio host Ross Hocker calls a performance by Crowe: "The most honest, heartfelt, and directly intimate concert in my entire life."

Hailing from Salt Spring Island, vocalist-guitarist Billie Woods, opens the show with a set of songs inspired by life in Canada's Pacific Northwest and infused with the warmth and vitality of the sambas, bossa novas and other cultural rhythms of Brazil. Woods will showcase tracks off her debut album/CD, “Only So Far”.

The evening’s concert concessions are provided by ISLA, Islanders' Secure Land Association, and feature an array of decadent delights, all made by caterers and sweetcrafters from Hornby. Enjoy!
