On “dark” days, those between stage productions, Theatre Newfoundland and Labrador lights up the Gros Morne Theatre Festival with a special concert series.

TNL’s “Who’s Darkening Our Door” line-up this Summer features Cow Head’s most-famous son, Daniel Payne, sister Stephanie, and a musical family reunion – all part of a local entertainment roster making these Monday night soirees a cultural highlight of the season.

Allison Crowe is delighted to be home from international touring. She’s immersed in recording projects while at play in Corner Brook, and performs her sole concert of the Summer this coming Monday, July 18 at Cow Head’s Warehouse Theatre.

Crowe aims to help GMTF celebrate its 16th season with a live set that mixes voice, piano, and guitar – and genres from rock to folk, jazz, pop and soul. Audiences ’round the world thrill to her passionate music, and reviewers focus on such descriptors as “amazing” and “transcendent” – looking to an array of artists - Edith Piaf, Aretha Franklin, Elton John, and Eddie Vedder among them - for comparisons. Still, as tv/radio personality Vicki Gabereau
says, there is no one else like Allison Crowe.

Singularly acclaimed as an original songwriter, and for freshly definitive takes on songs by Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen, The Beatles and everything from traditional aires to classics and grunge, later this July Crowe releases a double-A-side single, “Arthur” b/w “Up to the Mountain”, and next month, her label, Rubenesque Records Ltd., reaches the decade mark – growing as one of the most independently successful recording companies in the world.

Embracing the freedom created by digital technology and the internet, Crowe’s quick to bring her music direct to people in our global village. Today, her authentic music videos are approaching 11 million views on YouTube, and, collectively, Allison Crowe’s recordings have been watched, played, streamed and downloaded in numbers greater than the entire population of Canada.

All this fun and excitement comes together on Monday – with warmest thanks to TNL’s General Manager, Gaylene Buckle, Artistic Director, Jeff Pitcher, and their full GMTF troupe making it possible to join the magic on Main Street.
