At a time when its native country had become the new hotbed of electronic music, French duo Air distinguished itself from its more house-music-oriented contemporaries (Daft Punk, Dimitri From Paris) with soft, keyboard-heavy compositions that recalled music from the '60s and '70s.
Despite of the fact that Air cite their influences as The Beach Boys, The Beatles and Burt Bacharach they are, undoubtedly, one of the most exciting sounds to emerge from '90s Electronica. Call it what you want- ambient/lounge/disco/pop/ kitsch/moogweirdness (!) Air have succeeded in producing a sound that is both futuristic and retro, not quite fitting into any cozy niche
