[in the same complex, but not in the cohousing part, actually]

Through the East Bay Affordable Housing Week, East Bay Housing Organizations (EBHO) has educated literally hundreds of East Bay residents about affordable housing every year for the past 9 years. These events build excitement and energy around community development and affordable housing while pointing the way to practical housing solutions for the East Bay.

Why Housing?
Housing is a universal need of all people.

Housing is central to our quality of life – even to our basic survival. Without decent housing, we would have no place to rest, to keep our things, to prepare food and eat it, to take care of our personal hygiene, or to gather with our families and friends.

Housing provides each of us with our base of operations. Having a decent place to live enables us to go to work and raise our families. It is the place where we get ready for work each day, and the place where we return each night to rest. It is the place where we spend time with our children, where they can grow and where we trust they will be safe. Housing provides all of us with a sense of place. It allows us to become part of the community and participate in the social and political process. It provides a place for us to retreat from the chaos and stress of our daily lives – it’s the place where we can sleep soundly. And it’s the place where we keep our personal treasures (family photos, letters, and mementos). Safe and decent housing is an essential ingredient to the well-being of each individual in our society. Housing is the fabric of a healthy community.

Why housing? Because, housing is an investment in our communities.
