On Sunday, October 23, 2011 at the Egyptian Theatre (6712 Hollywood Blvd.), the Art Directors Guild (ADG) Film Society and American Cinematheque will screen CinemaScope’s epic, “Land of the Pharaohs” (1955); Hollywood’s revisionist tale of ancient Egypt and the construction of the pyramids.
A panel discussion, moderated by Production Designers, John Muto and Tom Walsh, will follow the screening, spotlighting the unique challenge of designing “Land of the Pharaohs;” in particular, according to Muto, “the deft re-imagining of pyramid architecture that provides the film with its amazing, never-to-be-forgotten climax.” The panel will feature Art Director Jim Hewitt, author of the just published, ‘Egypt Visual Sourcebook: For Artists, Architects, and Designers.’ Other panelists will follow.
“Land of the Pharaohs” is the last in this year’s ADG Film Society/American Cinematheque series, highlighting the work of the renowned Production Designers and their creative collaborators.
