The Brooklyn Public Library (BPL) has had a longstanding, positive relationship with New York City’s Haitian community.

We are mindful that the Haitian people are going through a very difficult time, resulting from the tragic earthquake that struck Haiti in the month of January 2010. BPL stands in solidarity with Haiti and the Haitian people.

In time like this, it is crucial for people—especially young people—to have outlets to express their concerns and hope for the future. For this reason, BPL has collaborated with Komite Reponse Yon Jenes (KRYJ) to host a Haitian youth event on April 17, 2010 at the central branch of the Brooklyn Public Library.

The purpose of this free cultural event is to offer a group of Haitian young people the opportunity to provide a response to the existing crisis in Haiti. On that day, an amazingly talented group of Haitian young people along with their adult supporters will respond with art shows, songs, dances, poems, and lectures.

Some of the performers and presenters will include
The prodigious young Haitian painter Weedmarck Simon;
Poetess par excellence Jeanie Bogart;
The Folkloric dance group Kreyol Dancers;
The dynamic musical groups Dja Rara and Soule,
The Haitian Youth Music band Paradoks from Haiti;
The electrifying lecturer Professor Pierre “Justice” Lubin.

We invite you to come and be a part of this unforgettable event. It will be held on April 17, 2010, from 2:00-5:00 p.m. on the second floor at the central branch of the Brooklyn Public Library. Admission is free.

That's amazing, the youth is the future of Haiti. This is a good way to reunite them and spread our culture. An educated youth is what Haiti needs. I'm definitely supporting this event 100% and will encourage friends to do the same.
