Dates: August 4th- Sept. 16th

Closing Artist Reception - Thursday, Sept. 14th, 6-9pm
Hours: Tues.- Sat. 7pm to 2am

Throughout the month of August and during the first
two weeks of September, Babs Underground lounge will be
hosting a solo art exhibition comprised of conceptual
photographs by Adam Gabriel Winnie.

The subject of the exhibit endeavors to disrobe our
Napoleon complex and confront our vulnerability of
mind and body. Ours is a world of talent and of art.
Mastery of one's self comes not only through
occupation, but through persistent study and
exploration of the arcane. Through all the ravages of
time, the chaos of war and the frailty of the mind..
secrets live on. Knowledge alone survives. These are
the stories of kingdoms long forgotten. These are the
voices of scholars and ghosts. During the creation of
these specific works the thought of confronting our
human frailties was a continuously driving force. By
utilizing what people are most familiar with “our own
form”, and the scale of the works, Adam has created a
very intimate approach to exposing what is most often
taken for granted in our world of external stimuli,
the mind.

For the past year Adam has been Meticulously busy
shooting these 46 staged photographs of models in
imaginary situations and environments. By creating
these images which are derived from reality but are
only capable of taking place in the mind a surreal
portrait of the subconscious was obtained by means of
extensive metaphors.

The shows title implies there to be a second
installment to this thematic exhibition which indeed
it does. “A Prelude to Frail Minds and Flesh” is only
a portion of this epic. In total 30 photo shoots were
taken, the images shown are only a select few of those
which will be used for the large scale exhibition to
follow.

Nearly all of the photographs shown are direct contact
prints from the negatives used for the larger
exhibition. For each shoot a medium format Hasselblad
camera was used to take, in eloquent detail, negatives
which are 2 1/4” x 2 1/4”. For 42 of the 46 images, 7
1/2” x 7 1/2” handmade frames were constructed from
pine and hand cut glass and these are in turn hung on
large gray boards according to the series their in.
