A Night of Brazilian Excitement Right Here in Seattle!
Seattle, WA, February 5, 2007 -- BomDemais Band, will be joined by the Academy Chamber Orchestra, at the “Brazilian Mardi Gras/Carnaval 2007” in one dazzling evening arranged to be an authentic Brazilian extravaganza, a recreation of the glamorous most popular party in Brazil, bringing to the Northwest, the enthusiastic rhythms of the samba, samba-reggae, pagode, marchinhas, frevo, axe, and pop music. This Carnaval, as spelled in Portuguese, is for anyone 21 and over, and will be held on Saturday, February 17, from 9pm to 1:30am, at Neumos, 925 East Pike Street, on Capitol Hill.
“It’s going to be a unique opportunity to experience the rhythms, the warmth, and the thrill of Carnaval in Brazil right here in Seattle,” says Antonio Ribeiro, the musician and promoter on the BomDemais Band. “Find a colorful costume or some feathers to wear and come shake ‘em with us! We promise to make you dance all night long.” According to him, an estimated 600 people are expected to attend the event this year, beating the last year attendance of more than 450 people.
BomDemais –meaning so good– is an 8 piece Seattle based band that features a wide range of Brazilian musical styles, particularly the rhythms from Bahia, hometown of Antonio Ribeiro and Haroldinho Costa, two of its main musicians.
True to his Bahian roots and style of musical innovation and creativity, Antonio Ribeiro has invited the Academy Chamber Orchestra to join the BomDemais Band in its repertoire for this event. The Academy Chamber Orchestra (ACO) is the premier Youth Chamber Orchestra in the Pacific Northwest. ACO provides a unique opportunity for advanced instrumentalists to perform the chamber orchestra repertoire of four centuries and others World Music from many cultures that are not included in the European classical tradition. The musicians range in age from 13 to 21 and have won numerous awards and honors on their respective instruments.
Prior to the main show, which will start at 9pm (the doors open at 8pm), and during intermission, the DJ Douglas will be in charge of getting people dancing; and everyone might enjoy the national drink of Brasil: Caipirinha (pronounced ky-pee-reen-ya) that will be available for sale at the venue.
There will be drawings and prizes for the Best Costume, the Best Dancer, etc! Everything will be highlighted by the graceful movement of experienced dancers in suitable costumes performing samba and the other forms of popular dances from Brasil.
