John Doe was a founding member and singer of the Los Angeles punk band X. Tim Easton's heartland melodies and easy-going insights are a kind of country-meets-folk style of rock that allows him to deliver a modern rock take on the folk music of the past. Michael Franti, one-half of the critically acclaimed and now defunct Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy, leads Spearhead, a band rooted in '70s funk, whose debut 'Home' was followed in 1997 by 'Chocolate Supa Highway,' and in 2001 by 'Stay Human.' 'Everyone Deserves Music' was released in early 2003. Lucinda Williams has been performing for more than 20 years. Her music is rooted in the traditional forms of country, Cajun, blues and R&B, while her lyrics are modern and direct. She returns with her latest recording, 'Essence.' Meiko grew up in Roberta, Georgia, and her biggest influence was her dad. He played guitar and sang to her ever since she was a baby. His music was the only thing she ever listened to as a kid. And whoever bought her that Mariah Carey tape 'Emotions' did her a huge favor -- she would practice singing it every day. She owes her lucky ear to her dad and that tape! This former member of Lone Justice has a soulful country sound with a touch of folk.
