8th Annual Arvada Kite Festival
Taking us wherever the wind blows!

Kites date back as far as 3000 years and have changed history. From China, the kite was reproduced throughout the world. On November 12, 1894, Lawrence Hargrave was lifted from the ground by a train of four of his "cellular kites". (He was trying to invent the aeroplane!) In 1903, Samuel Franklin Cody crossed the English Channel on a vessel towed by kites. From 1860 to 1910 kites experienced a “golden age” being used for all manner of experiments. These days kites are mostly a source of recreation and fun.

On Saturday, April 10 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. the Arvada Festivals Commission and the Foothills Kite Club celebrates National Kite Month at the 8th Annual Kite Festival held at Robby Ferrufino Park, 74th Ave. and Carr Drive. Young and old kite enthusiasts are invited to join the kite competition and winners will carry home trophies.
