Born in San Francisco and raised in Berkeley a generation into the free speech movement, Owen Roberts' songwriting has been called "a gritty, folksy acoustic melange that manages an edgy side." As front man, songwriter and guitarist for the Bay Area and San Diego based band Shady Maples, Owen co-produced their independent 2012 debut album Unfold and tours the west coast regularly with the band. His 2007 solo album, Bay to Maples, showcases his dynamic songwriting with multi-lingual lyrics in English, Italian, and Spanish, and his genre bending sensibility.
