Under the direction of legendary choreographer and dancer Christina Hoyos, Ballet Flamenco Andalucia features a troupe of over twenty dancers and musicians, evoking the soul and history of traditional Andalucia, the heartland of flamenco.

Hoyos, a superstar of classic flamenco dance, is indelibly connected to dancer Antonio Gades and director Carlos Saura, who established her as the most seductive Carmen dance has known. Recipient of both Spain?s National Dance Award and the Andalusian Award of Culture, Hoyos directed her own company until taking over Ballet Flamenco de AndalucĂa in 2004. This performance marks DC?s first opportunity to see them in action.

?Hoyos performed with the greatest subtlety. As singers wailed mournfully, her upper body came alive with serpentine twistings of arms and articulated fingers, while her lower body broke loose in a torrent of complicated percussive heel chattering.?
