The Gala Concert on June 25 (Fri) 7:30PM will feature piano ensembles with other instruments. Shigeo Tachibana, Shakuhachi (bamboo flute), and Masayuki Toyo-oka, piano, joined by Joseph Gold, violin and cellist August Lee, will present rarely heard pieces, blending music from the East and the West. Gold and Mary Au will join forces to present Franck's universally loved violin sonata, followed by a performance of seldom heard Cello Sonata Op. 65 by Chopin by Au and Lee, in celebration of Chopin's 200th anniversary. Continuing the celebration of Romantic music from the West, Duo Pianistico di Firenze will provide stunning arrangements by Liszt/Horowitz and Borodin. Seo and Kato Duo will provide a dramatic finish to the concert with Bartok's Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion, the third Movement, and an unforgettably lovely arrangement of Saint Saens' masterpiece piece "The Swan" for two pianos and cello.
