On January 19, 2009, we are holding our second annual Mitzvah Day - a day of service - honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We hope you will join us and unite with your neighbors in an effort to better the community. Please register in advance at paloaltojcc.org.

Projects are geared toward all ages so that families and friends can work side by side. Take your pick from a wide variety of services, including meal preparation at soup kitchens and homeless shelters, environmental clean-up activities at local beaches and nature preserves, visiting residents of a senior center, creating cards and gift packages for American and Israeli soldiers on active duty abroad, and building affordable housing. Whether you are a family with young children, a college student or a senior, there will be a project for you to make a significant contribution.

Last year was a huge success, and this year, we are planning on an even larger turnout. Mitzvah Day is a unique opportunity to experience unity and cooperation, bring people together for a shared mission to promote Dr. King's legacy of tolerance, peace, and equality, and improve life in our own community!

Experience Mitzvah Day for yourself. Please go to our Mitzvah Day web page at paloaltojcc.org/mitzvah and sign up for a project for you, your whole family and/or with your friends. All participants will receive a t-shirt, bag and the priceless joy of knowing that you are contributing to making the world a better place.

This event is presented in partnership with BBYO, Congregation Beth AM, Congregation Emek Beracha, Congregation Etz Chayim, Congregation Kol Emeth, The Friendship Circle, Gideon Hausner Jewish Day School, Hillel at Stanford, Jewish Family & Children's Services of San Francisco, the Peninsula, Marin & Sonoma Counties, Keddem Congregation, Kehillah Jewish High School, and Temple Beth Jacob.
