A robot in every home? That was the title of a broad-ranging article by Bill Gates on the emergence of the robotics industry in the January 2007 issue of Scientific American. Said Gates: "the robotics industry is developing in much the same way the computer business did 30 years ago. Think of the manufacturing robots currently used on automobile assembly lines as the equivalent of yesterday's mainframes... Meanwhile, some of the world's best minds are trying to solve the toughest problems of robotics, such as visual recognition, navigation, and machine learning. And they are succeeding."

If the robotics industry develops as Gates suggests it will, it will open up enormous opportunities for new software and IT applications. NYSIA is combing the region to get the best speakers to discuss the future of the robotics industry.
