THE FORGOTTEN SUMMER chronicles the African American struggle for equality and self-preservation during the ultra-violent summer of 1919. The Red Summer, as coined by former NAACP Secretary James Weldon Johnson, gave way to over 24 deadly race riots on U.S. soil, but has since been buried in the annals of selectively forgotten American history. With important historical footage and exclusive testimony from a survivor of the riots, The Forgotten Summer publicizes a chapter of the African American experience that has much to bear on the United States' current racial divide.

JULIAN BERRIAN is the producer/director of THE FORGOTTEN SUMMER. He has also worked as editor on a number of documentaries, including Willa Cofield's award winning The Brick School Legacy and Maida Odom's 1199c@25.

Additionally, the event will feature artwork regarding lynching and resistance created by JOHN ABNER, a Philadelphia-based artist whose work addresses social and political issues. Some artwork will be available for purchase.
