Activities and Events

Oct. 21st, 7:30 AM-8:40 AM, The 140th Anniversary Commemoration Ceremony at Mission San Jose, 43300 Mission Blvd., Fremont, CA. The earthquake will be commemorated at 7:55 AM, the time the earthquake struck 140 years ago, in a building that is a replica of the chapel destroyed in the quake. Program includes USGS scientists, Suzette Kimball and Tom Brocher, historians, descendants of 1868 quake survivors, the Mayor of Fremont, Bob Wasserman, State Senator Ellen Corbett, and Harold Brooks, CEO of the Bay Area Chapter of the American Red Cross.

Oct. 21st, 10 AM or any time during this day, San Francisco Bay Area Earthquake Drill (Drop, Cover, and Hold On), St. Joseph’s Elementary School, 43222 Mission Blvd., Fremont. The Honorable Rosario Marin, Secretary of the State and Consumer Services Agency, will be in attendance. More than 100,000 students and employees are signed up online to participate in the drill. The City and County of San Francisco is also an active participant of the drill on this day under "ShakeUp SF." Oct. 21st, 10:50 AM to 12 PM, "Hands-On" Emergency Preparedness Fair for students at St. Joseph's Elementary School, 43222 Mission Blvd., Fremont. The USGS, City of Fremont Fire Department, QuakeHold!, and others will participate in this event.


Oct. 22 to 24, 8 AM to 5 PM. Third Conference on Earthquake Hazards in the East San Francisco Bay, CSU East Bay, Multipurpose Room, New University Union, 25800 Carlos Bee Ave., Hayward. Over 300 earthquake professionals are expected to attend this three day conference on earthquake hazard and risk in the East Bay. http://1868alliance.org/activities/?id=16


Oct. 23rd, 7 PM to 8:30 PM. Are you ready for the Next Big Earthquake? FREE Public Lecture and Preparedness Fair, CSU East Bay, Multipurpose Room, New University Union, 25800 Carlos Bee Ave., Hayward. Speakers will include Tom Brocher, USGS, Madelyn Mackie, American Red Cross, and Craig Ishida, CSU East Bay. Exhibitors include: USGS, 1868 Hayward Earthquake Alliance, FEMA, California Geological Survey, Your Safety Place, SmartReady.com, United Policyholders, CSU East Bay Hayward and others.
