HIGH FLYIN’ FUN

11th Annual Arvada Kite Festival

ARVADA, CO – The 11th Annual Arvada Kite Festival will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Robby Ferrufino Park, 74th Avenue and Carr Drive in Arvada. A rain date of April 20 has been reserved.

This event thrills all age groups with the artistry of kite flying and friendly competition along with musical entertainment, great food, activities and non-stop fun.

Kite flying competitors will be divided into two groups based upon age: a 10 and younger age group and an 11 and older age group. There will be four categories of competition: highest kite, smallest kite, largest kite and most visually appealing kite. It’s FREE to compete and trophies will be awarded to the top four winners in both age groups.

The event also includes music throughout the day including a performance by the Jeffco Brass Band at noon. Plus there will be a number of kid-friendly activities including YMCA Kids Zone, face painters, balloon twister, two jumping houses, spin art, a portrait artist, Cecelia’s Little Train, a caricaturist, a climbing tower, alpacas, and more! There will be many community booths and plenty of great food vendors. Plus, there will be kites for sale.

As an added visual delight, the Rocky Mountain Kite Club members will demonstrate flying their kites. Parking is encouraged at Warder Elementary School and the Meyers Pool with shuttle buses provided to and from the park.

For those interested in building the kite you hope to compete, a number of kite building classes will be held throughout the Arvada community: You must call and register for a class. For Majestic View Nature Center classes call 720-898-7405.
