BandWorks
School of Rock

Celebrating its 20th anniversary year, since 1993 BandWorks has helped several thousand musicians fulfill their dream of playing in a rock band. BandWorks helps organize students into bands, provides coaching with some of the best musician-instructors in the Bay Area, and after 8 weeks rehearsing their favorite rock, pop, blues, reggae, and original songs, takes the bands to the stage at Ashkenaz to perform live in front of an audience. Find out how you can join a band at bandworks.com.

This month BandWorks is especially excited to enhance the concert experience by partnering with Brushstrokes and the Alameda County Community Food Bank (ACCFB) for the kickoff painting opportunity for the annual “Empty Bowls” fundraiser for ACCFB. Brushstrokes has been a longtime partner with ACCFB, donating and coordinating the painting of the bowls for their fundraiser. While the opportunity to paint a bowl for “Empty Bowls” is usually only available in select schools in the community, this will be a chance for everyone who attends the BandWorks concert to participate in a meaningful way and express their creativity by painting a bowl however they like. The bowls will then be used at the annual Empty Bowls event in May at the ACCFB facility in Oakland, where guests are served a delicious, simple meal of soup and bread, and take home the bowl as a reminder of the empty bowls on tables of low-income families throughout Alameda County.
