Second Life is a 3-D virtual world started in 2003 by San Francisco-based Linden Lab. Users can sign up for free and create avatars to represent themselves; then start exploring the 3D world, interacting with others and creating objects. Second Life currently has over 1 million user accounts with about half being active in the last 60 days. $7m USD worth of transactions is occurring in-world each month.
